THE OYSTER PROJECT
Oyster Awards Ceremonies
We know how difficult it can be for people with disabilities to find voluntary or work experience especially if they haven't done any before or for some time. voluntary and work-like experience opportunities are available to members by taking part in many of our projects. For example taking on a role at the Community Cafe and the Chapel Cafe, being an ambassador and visiting schools etc. collecting for the Oyster Food Bank and also in supporting our role at the Westgate Chapel, High Street, Lewes which we manage on a day-to-day basis.
ITliterate members can get experience and add to their CV by taking part in our IT based fundraising, DiTs and Lewes Community Internet, and others in the running of projects and events.  The essence of the Oyster Project is self-help and we place great emphasis on helping each other and working in the community.  By taking part in this way many personal goals can, and have been, be achieved by members.

Our member volunteers have also initiated a special community project named AWARE in conjunction with local police and the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner.
We work closely with Radio Lewes, a webcasting initiative. Run as a Community Interest Company it's a great way for members to get engaged in real work-like experience and with a wider community.
