The Empowerment Hub project continues apace at Westgate with more members becoming involved at different levels and with different activities as appropriate.  It's a great team effort partly funded by a Sussex Community Foundation grant and by the efforts of the members themselves.  A great example of the Oyster way of working.

Amazing news from Nick Andrews and Friends who have raised over £1300 for the charity by singing at concerts and carols in the pubs this Christmas.  Oyster member Nick is not only a lovely chap he's also a highly skilled professional musician, singer, conductor and music teacher.  We are very grateful to have his support and the support of his wonderful group of friends who sing so beautifully.

Our film "Time Slip" has won another award this time in Australia.  Dawn submitted the film on behalf of Oyster and did all the paperwork so big thanks to her.  Time Slip won the Our Story/Awareness class in the Sit Down, Shut Up and Watch! festival held in  Australia.

Inspired by the UK’s highly successful Oska Bright Film Festival, Australia’s SDSW has been three years in the making. The festival is aimed at raising awareness in the wider community of a growing international learning disability led screen culture and aims to promote cultural change, inclusion and acceptance of high quality work by filmmakers with a learning disability.

The festival takes place on Friday 31 October 2014 at Angaston Town Hall in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.

SDSW received 43 films from around the world. As well as short films made by local South Australian filmmakers submissions came from Victoria and New South Wales, as well as entries from Ireland, England, Germany and Israel.

Fundraising with GoGetFunding
We are trying to raise money to make Christmas 2014 better for Food Bank members, we believe we have created the only food bank in the UK specifically for disabled people who can't get into the 'normal' referral stream of food banks.

We now supply food, household cleaning items and personal hygiene goods plus run a weekly Soup Kitchen every Friday 12.30 - 1.30pm at our HQ, 92a High Street, Lewes BN71XH (Westgate Chapel)
